The Grand Lodges Of The Mediterranean

About Us

The Grand Lodges of the Mediterranean (GLM)

The Grand Lodges of the Mediterranean (GLM) are a unique Masonic alliance that unites Brothers from the three continents surrounding the Mediterranean Sea: Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

Inspired by the rich cultural, intellectual, and spiritual heritage of Mediterranean civilizations, the GLM strives to create a transcontinental Masonic community. Our mission is to promote the timeless values of fraternity, freedom, and tolerance, essential to human progress and intercultural understanding.

Our Vision and Objectives

For centuries, the Mediterranean has been a crossroads of cultures, religions, and ideas. Building on this legacy, the GLM seeks to weave strong Masonic bonds and encourage spiritual and intellectual exchanges.

Our objectives include:

  • Promoting universal fraternity – providing a meeting space where Brothers of all cultures and faiths can share their journeys in Masonry.
  • Educational and cultural projects – supporting initiatives such as MEDUNIEX, an Erasmus-inspired exchange program, and academic paths (Master’s and PhD) focused on philosophy, symbolism, and Masonic history.
  • Supporting young obediences – guiding new lodges in their growth while respecting their cultural identities.
  • Mediterranean Digital Passport – a symbolic tool designed to strengthen unity and identity across our region.

Principles and Commitments

The GLM is rooted in the principles of Masonic regularity and the Ancient Duties, while embracing an inclusive approach respectful of cultural diversity.

We firmly reject any form of neo-colonialism, fostering collaborations built on equality and reciprocity.

Through the use of new technologies, the GLM maintains a strong online presence with a multilingual communication platform, active social media channels, and a YouTube platform, enabling global connection and the sharing of knowledge.

Governance

The governance of the GLM follows the principles established by the United Grand Lodge of England (UGLE) and Anderson’s Constitutions of 1723.

  • Council of Founding Lodges – representatives of the three founding obediences.
  • General Assembly – supreme decision-making body, composed of all member lodges.
  • Executive Committee – responsible for implementing decisions and ensuring regularity.
  • Ethics Committee – guaranteeing adherence to Masonic values.
  • International Relations Committee – strengthening cultural and diplomatic ties.
  • Communication Committee – overseeing visibility and public presence.

Founding Lodges

The GLM was founded through the union of three obediences:

  • Grand Lodge of Jerusalem of Malta (GLJM) – established in 1966, rooted in tradition and international presence.
  • Grand Lodge of Free Masons (GLML) – founded in 2015 in France, promoting openness and tolerance.
  • Grand Lodge of Europe and the Mediterranean (GLEM) – created in 2020, combining tradition and modernity with a focus on Mediterranean heritage.

Early Achievements

Since its foundation, the GLM has:

  • Designed a distinctive logo, symbolizing openness and fraternity.
  • Drafted the Charter for New Memberships.
  • Welcomed new lodges across Europe and the Middle East.
  • Launched a multilingual communication platform.
  • Initiated educational projects such as MEDUNIEX and academic partnerships.

Looking Ahead

The GLM aspires to be a Masonic reference point in the Mediterranean, building bridges across cultures, supporting education, and promoting a Freemasonry that is socially progressive and deeply humanis
